Hi all

I have a 10ft pool table, that you can have. You have to be able to get blood stains out though. Me and the neighbor got into a fight over a game we bet on and i stuffed his head into one of the pockets. Feel free to come by and pick it up, it cause's to many fights.

P.S. incase your wondering the neighbor's fine, just missing a few teeth :0

Funeral Blues

George shares with me one of our friend Jen's favorite poems. Holy shit. It follows:

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

- W. H. Auden

I am a twat

I order my Americano with ruminant. Which is funny because milk comes from cows.

Fashion baby!

Phillips is making this cool new fabric with light emitting diodes embedded in it. I totally need to make something cool for Burning Man out of this. A next generation pope outfit is in order...

More news...

Real made another couple of mobile announcements today, one of which I'm fairly intimately involved with: Real is working with Cingular to bring a next-generation video service to market. This article gets it totally wrong, Real - rTV in one form or another has been available for years; our new service on Cingular is built on a totally new platform called Helix OnlineTV and the inside stuff is amazing.

It feels great to be involved with so many things that are built on inspiring technology and are making the news. I love watching the results of dedicated and wonderful people coming together to make something new. Hopefully I'll get a chance to work with my wonderful friend Elaine as she settles into her new job.

Night walking

Nice trick from Tricks of the Trade. I should have thought of this...

If you get up in the middle of the night to grab a glass of water, there's a simple way to avoid stubbing toes on the way back to bed. Close one eye just before you you turn on the light or open the fridge door, and keep it closed the whole time the light is on. When you turn the lights off, open both eyes. The eye you kept closed will still be dilated, and allow you to see in the dark.

With one eye shut you probably have like zero depth perception, which may make this whole exercise useless... you'll still stub your toe. I usually wander around at night by memory anyway. I suppose this trick could come in handy in unfamiliar places though...

Knots

not really a knot

BowlineI've decided I need to make a study of knots. Mark kicked my ass with knots at Burning Man. An Eagle Scout, he remembered how to tie a bowline hitch, shown here, useful for looping a rope to something without slippage. Since I quit as a Tenderfoot, much to the dismay of my brothers (who both went on to become Eagles), I pretty much make up knots as I go, sometimes remembering how to tie a bowline, sometimes remembering my sheepshank, but otherwise I'm a total n00b.

Anyway, knots are yummy, useful and mathematically interesting. I'm going to become a pro.

Stuff I really need to do and I'll try to get around to

  • Outline new art project idea along with a schedule and see if I can figure out how to do it and retain some kind of sanity at the end.
  • Call the parents and remind them of my name and that I am the middle one and that I miss them.
  • Ask gym for refund for last few months of rare attendance. Remedy previous.
  • Replace smokes with shots of liquid vitamin supplement I purchased recently. Replace whiskey with... organic ginger beer or something.
  • Start doing a wry weekly cartoon to keep sense of humor and creative output polished and productive.
  • Figure out why the Washington Ferry system thinks I owe them $176
  • Start attending mobile conferences everyone else seems weary of instead of just losing sleep over building the stuff that my colleagues will be talking about.
  • Become more of an expert in music rights, mobile media and delivery, project management, providing creative direction.
  • Generally deal with stress better. Blog as catharsis. Run for freedom. Inhale, exhale deeply. Smile more. Be thankful.
